Got QUESTIONS about your outdoor family photoshoot?

I usually suggest a late afternoon or early evening session, just before sunset. This is when the light becomes beautifully soft and flattering – perfect for creating warm, natural images with a gentle glow.

We’ll normally meet around 60–90 minutes before sunset. The exact timing does change throughout the year, so we’ll confirm the final start time closer to your session date to make sure we catch the very best light.
That said, if an earlier time works better for your family, we can absolutely adjust this – I’ll always guide you on what will photograph best.

Much like a special occasion or family celebration, a slight adjustment to naps or bedtime on the day of your shoot can work beautifully. The fresh air, movement and gentle direction during the session naturally keeps children engaged and energised, even if timings are a little different from usual. I most often find they LOVE the adventure!


I recommend offering a slightly later lunch or early supper beforehand, and bringing along a few neutral, non-staining snacks just in case. A change of clothes or even pyjamas for the journey home can also be helpful for afterwards.

What you wear plays an important role in the overall feel of your photographs. To ensure everything looks beautifully cohesive, I provide a carefully curated style guide and offer personal guidance ahead of your session. Together, we’ll refine your outfit choices so your images feel timeless, natural and effortlessly elegant.

I have a small collection of outdoor locations that I use regularly for family sessions.
Each has been chosen for its natural beauty, beautiful textures and consistently flattering light throughout the seasons. Having photographed in these spaces extensively, I know exactly how the light moves and where to position you for the most effortless, refined images.
However, if you have a particular place in mind, I’m always happy to explore and prepare it in advance to ensure it complements your session perfectly.

I understand that little ones thrive on routine, so we’ll always aim to schedule your session around nap times wherever possible to ensure everyone feels well-rested and happy.
That said, much like a special occasion or family celebration, a slight adjustment to naps or bedtime on the day can work beautifully.

Well-behaved dogs are very welcome to join your session – they’re part of the family too!
If you’d like a mix of images with and without them, it’s helpful to have a lead and, where possible, someone available to hold them briefly. A calm, obedient temperament is important, particularly in outdoor settings.
I’m very comfortable around dogs and have photographed many over the years.

Above all, please don’t worry.
As a mum of two and a primary school teacher of 11 years, I’m very experienced in building natural, easy rapport with children of all ages. Sessions are always led by your child’s personality and temperament, allowing them the space to feel comfortable and themselves.
We’ll keep things relaxed and playful – chatting, moving and gently guiding – so nothing ever feels forced.
